Rajasthan Government Launches New Water Conservation Initiative

In a major step towards addressing water scarcity, the Rajasthan government has launched a comprehensive water conservation initiative aimed at harvesting rainwater and rejuvenating traditional water bodies across the state.

The initiative, named “Jal Sanrakshan Abhiyan,” will focus on building check dams, restoring ancient stepwells (baoris), and implementing modern rainwater harvesting systems in both urban and rural areas.

Water Resources Minister announced that a budget of Rs 500 crore has been allocated for this initiative in the current fiscal year. The project will be implemented in phases, starting with the most water-stressed districts.

Local communities will be actively involved in the maintenance and management of water bodies, ensuring sustainability and community ownership of the resources.

Experts have praised the initiative, noting that traditional water harvesting methods combined with modern technology could significantly improve the state’s water security.
